1. Backup your data: Before making any changes to your hard drive partitions, it's essential to back up your important data to avoid any potential data loss.
2. Open Disk Management: Click on the "Start" button, right-click on "Computer," and select "Manage." This will open the Computer Management window.
3. Access Disk Management: In the Computer Management window, click on "Disk Management" under the "Storage" section. This will display all the connected drives and their partitions.
4. Choose the target drive: Select the drive on which you want to create a new partition. Be careful to select the correct drive to avoid accidental data loss.
5. Shrink the existing partition: Right-click on the existing partition and choose "Shrink Volume." This will initiate the process of resizing the partition to create free space for the new partition.
6. Specify the size: Enter the amount of space you want to allocate for the new partition in the "Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB" field. The remaining space will be available for the new partition.
7. Create the new partition: Right-click on the unallocated space created by shrinking the existing partition and select "New Simple Volume." This will open the New Simple Volume Wizard.
8. Follow the wizard: In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click "Next" to proceed. You can specify the size of the new partition, assign a drive letter or path, and choose the file system format (NTFS is recommended for Windows).
9. Format the partition: Choose a name for the new partition and select the "Format this volume with the following settings" option. Leave the default settings as they are unless you have specific requirements. Click "Next" to continue.
10. Complete the wizard: Review the summary of your selections, and if everything looks correct, click "Finish" to create the new partition. Windows will format the partition, which may take a few moments.
11. Verify the new partition: Once the process is complete, you can check the Disk Management window to ensure that the new partition has been successfully created.
